Michigan is steering about $30 million year in development-friendly tax credits away from the sprawling suburbs and into the urban core. The state’s decade-old Brownfield redevelopment program is being linked to the “cool cities” initiative in an effort to rebuild older cities and suburbs into economic powerhouses with vibrant downtowns.
