Create an E-Waste Recycling Program

In the past year, more than 50 bills were introduced in 29 states addressing the environmental and fiscal impacts of e-waste, according to the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators.   None are as far-reaching as Senate Bill 20, California’s new law which will fund statewide collection and recycling of e-waste, and require toxic materials like lead and mercury to be eliminated from electronic products.

“This is a great start by California. Now other states need to follow suit,” said David Wood, director of the Grassroots Recycling Network. In Washington, the Senate panel gets bill on recycling computers, TVs-- The proposal requires the Department of Ecology to research electronics recycling and report findings.
