Regulating City and County Lobbyists

Special interest groups -- including business owners and developers -- are spending millions of dollars on lobbyists and consultants to lobby city government. With increased devolution of power to local government, many may cross ethical lines and violate comparatively inadequate laws.

The only way to ensure that city government is as clean is to ensure disclosure at every turn.  San Jose is already moving forward, Denver is considering stricter rules, and Wisconsin Ethics Board has one of the best website in the country as a model.  Costs can be covered by a tax on lobbyists.
