Andy Gussert
Andy Gussert, founder of Progressive Strategies and project leader for ALICE, has worked as a farm laborer, federal court clerk, forestry worker, bartender, house painter, waiter, janitor, gas station attendant, paper boy, tech school instructor, bank receptionist and barnacle scraper. He now serves as President of AFT-Wisconsin. Gussert’s specialty is assisting progressive non-profits in communicating effectively by developing a personalized advocacy toolbox. Recent clients include Americans for Democratic Action, The Pew Foundation, Visuality Media, Americans Coming Together, Citizens Trade Campaign and the Wisconsin Fair Trade Campaign. Andy also possesses a strong background in public policy, budget, campaign and legal experience, serving as national director for the State Environmental Resource Center, a non-profit set up by the Turner Foundation to track the best environmental initiatives bubbling up across the states. Gussert co-wrote the ALEC expose found at ALEC Watch, a website he started while working at SERC. Gussert’s served as executive director for a state government research agency. A veteran of two dozen campaigns over 16 years, Gussert wrote Pollie Award winning television ads and worked extensively in state budget, trade and labor policy.
